Director Damien Leone said several major studios have shown interest in financing the film based on the unexpected success of Terrifier. 2 (2022), even without a complete script, but he turned them all down because he’s sure they’d never let him shoot the opening scene himself, which he describes as “very controversial.” Leone commented that the only reason he can be so uncompromising in his portrayal of horror and gore is because he finances his films himself, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down and doesn’t have a major studio breathing down his neck to make the film more mainstream.. Mia mentions that the 5th anniversary of the original massacre is coming up, but that happened on Halloween, and this movie taking place on Christmas 5 years later means that the anniversary only passed 2 months ago. .. Artwork by Drew Fulk, Joe Occhiuti, Paul Wiley, Spencer Charnas and Steve Sopchak performed by Ice Nine Kills and Shav Odadjian. This Terrifier series is fascinating. The first film is a bit tricky, because it doesn’t really have anything memorable narratively or cinematically, other than introducing a memorable villain and having some impressively gruesome violence. It’s a slasher film that’s not stripped down to the essentials, but somehow further pared down. It’s a bit of a pointless movie, plotless and seemingly uninteresting. Then came the second, which made the villain even more memorable, and had a bloodbath that turned out to be the most shocking. It also had pretty good story and character development (don’t think that’s popular opinion, but I loved it) and introduced more of the, for lack of a better word, fascinating mythology of the show. Terrifier 3 takes everything the second movie did well and I think it’s even better. Terrifier 2 seemed a little too long at 138 minutes, and Terrifier 3 was slightly shorter, helping the pace immensely. I still feel surprisingly invested in this series, which is shaping up to be something truly fantastic. They could end up overdoing that aspect, and they almost do here, but I really understand what these films have evolved into. Violence is disgusting. It’s at least as sadistic as the other one, maybe more so. Art the Clown is funny when he’s not killing people, but I deeply hate him. I love to hate him. Unironically, one of the best villains of the last 10 years. He is Harpo Marx, if Harpo was also a serial killer. The final performance elevated this film immensely. Chainsaws have never heard louder. I was worried I was going to have a panic attack and felt uneasy. I’m a little upset after everything, now that it’s over. Sadistic violence played its part, but I think I cared too. All these characters have suffered so much and I was so interested to see them overcome. In the last scenes, I was spinning in my seat more because of the roles than because of the violence. I find that impressive, or maybe I’m just having fun. Some scenes look too cheap and the pacing is not perfect. Occasional rough deliveries and inconsistent actions here and there. It kind of tied the first and second movies together in a way that felt pretty crude. But most of the second half made me so nervous and I have to celebrate a movie that makes me so.
