Midas Man was definitely worth it, I found it entertaining, surprisingly moving and so well written, directed and acted. This story chronicles the early rise to fame of the Beatles, known as Liverpool’s Fab Four, focusing on Brian Epstein, their first manager, who saw something in this now legendary group of musicians that no one else could. Epstein not only introduced the Beatles to the world, but also Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers and many other artists. Epstein also helped put his British hometown of Liverpool on the world map by introducing the Mersey Sound that defined the 1960s and forever influenced musical taste and fashion.

His public professional persona was that of a successful and later very wealthy promoter and entrepreneur, but his private life was at times chaotic and dangerous, ultimately leading to his untimely death at the age of just 32.

I liked the theatrical technique of breaking the fourth wall when Epstein occasionally speaks to the audience, in this case it is very effective. I also enjoyed the performances of the supporting cast, which includes Emily Watson as Malka Epstein, Brian’s understanding and protective mother, and Eddie Marsan as Harry, the father whose approval and acceptance Brian Epstein craved but never got. Jonah Lees is very impressive as John Lennon, he has some great scenes as well as Darci Shaw as Cilla Black and Blake Richardson as Paul McCartney. The action of this film takes place over just six years, from Brian Epstein’s first discovery of the Beatles in 1961, without Ringo in the famous Liverpool club Cavern, to the revolutionary Beatles album “Our World”.
