The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley
Narrative
Set after the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, makes a play to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. From melting makeup to filming in freezing temperatures, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti talk about how they got into character during the making of The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to have his version of The Penguin smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but it was unsuccessful. For his own series, however, the character is portrayed as an occasional tobacco user, with a preference for cigars.
An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros
logo. Featured in Graham Norton and I Like: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). The Batman, for my taste, simply had the best portrayal of Gotham City ever filmed. The setting was disgustingly dank and visually everything you’d want to see from what it’s known for.
This series absolutely revs up those aspects and builds on the film perfectly
Much of it was the mafia underworld where Oswald aka The Penguin was starting to take over. I can’t say enough about Colin Farrell’s performance in this and honestly, it might be his masterpiece. The guy gives the character the most gritty, guttery feel he can and it’s done so well that it resonates. Even without Batman, the intrigue of him is so strong that you don’t even notice.
I can overlook that
The other supporting characters are very well done, although some of the casting choices felt a little off to some. This series continues to set up the Batman universe perfectly. And I can’t wait to see where they go from here. One of the best series of the last decade easily.
Give Colin Farrell all the awards he deserves for this role
