Land grabs threaten to destroy the waning dynasty
Narrative
When the sprawling Lawson cattle station fails to produce an heir, Australia’s rival factions see a chance to seize control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in locations so remote they’re barely inhabited – let alone shown on screen.
Although here he’s playing a very different character
Locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the Traditional Owners – and Tipperary Station, a real, working cattle station that’s so large it has its own airfield and school. I was so excited when I discovered that this series co-stars the wonderful actor Robert Taylor, who I absolutely loved in the Longmire series.
(No spoilers) Any comparison to Yellowstone is silly
I know there are devoted Yellowstone fans out there, but this series is a much better acted and written drama than the soap opera Yellowstone. Anna Torv is always great, and here she’s in her element in her native Australia.
I really hope there’s a second season
The younger, unknown supporting actors around the two leads are very good too, including the Aboriginal actors, and of course the spectacular Australian outback is a co-star in its own right.
