It’s actually “Until you’re known in my profession as a monster, you’re not a star.” Maxine Minx: Do you know what happened to the last person who tried to kill me? I smacked her damn head. In keeping with the film’s 1980s aesthetic, after the credits, as in many video stores, there is a “Be Kind, Rewind” sticker.

Nevertheless, the film’s unique style ultimately triumphs over its flaws
Maxxine is a film that really emphasizes style but falls short in the substance department. While I appreciated the callbacks to 80s slasher and slasher films, the plot and execution felt a bit disjointed and lacked coherence. Mia Goth once again delivers an enigmatic performance, though her character felt less compelling compared to the previous installments of the trilogy.

The third act was a bit of a disappointment as it didn’t live up to the intense build up. As a fan of the genre, I found elements to enjoy, but I couldn’t help but be disappointed by the less-than-epic ending, especially after the emotional conclusions of the previous two films. A24 has created some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
