On screen, he has excelled at portraying gravitas, charisma, composure under pressure and solid efficiency, but the new Apple TV+ offering showcases a completely different dimension to the British veteran, with dry British wit and wry humour. We follow the story of MI5 agent Jackson Lamb; (Oldman) who heads a sub-group of the intelligence agency called the Slow Horses.

Lamb seems perfectly happy going about routine operations and surveillance gigs when his team accidentally becomes embroiled in the kidnapping of a young Muslim man, believed to be by right-wing fundamentalists. Featuring Jonathan Pryce, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Jack Lowden and a host of great British actors, Slow Horses takes care to paint vivid sketches of its motley crew of temperamental agents with a need to prove themselves given their shady pasts. Director James Hawes slowly but surely builds his narrative over six whole episodes, full of unexpected twists and turns as the stakes rise and the plot becomes more complex as the team tracks down one leader after another.
the most unexpected intersections
takes shape as a caustic, slurred-talking spy who seems to use taunts and scorn as a weapon to get his team to perform, and the supporting cast plays the old master, creating a vivid world that intrigues and makes you laugh. Writing by Morwenna Banks; Will Smith; Jonny Stockwood; Mark Denton deserves special praise for striking the right balance between character development, suspense, twists and humor. Apple TV+ has another winner in Slow Horses with Severance; is clearly becoming one of the best new releases of 2022.
